I have been a professional artist since 1978 when I graduated from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. My work has changed throughout my career from mixed media 2-D and 3-D images to handmade paper.
My love of the hand papermaking process gained technical knowledge after a 2 week workshop at Penland School of Crafts (NC) in 1990.
I have an extensive background in the arts which includes 22 years as an elementary art teacher, the past president of the Greenville Artist Guild (SC), Gallery Assistant at Tempo Gallery (Greenville) and Joe DeMers Gallery in Harbour Town (SC). I received a South Carolina Arts Commission Grant to pursue plexiglass constructions (1985) and to attend the Penland Workshop (1990).
For seven years, I worked with Beaufort County Recreation Commission as Arts Coordinator and was the founder of Kreation Station, an art education center. I won an innovative programming award for initiating the Young Artists at Camp program. I was a freelance art instructor, designing art programs for the Renaissance Institute, Westin Resort, Hilton Resort, Hilton Head Plantation, Hilton Head Preparatory School and the Gifted & Talented Programs with Beaufort County School District.
As an artist, I was selected to exhibit at the SC Artisans Center (Walterboro) and Piccolo Spoleto (Charleston). My handmade paper products have been the mainstay of my creative journey including stationery floated with leaves & flowers, three dimensional castings, clocks, boxes and customized embedded invitations as keepsakes.
From 1991 until August 2009 my paper business became more of a part time job because I was raising my wonderful son, Ashby, with my wonderful husband Bob. Ashby is now in college, so I can spend more time creating paper; however, Ashby shows his support of my talent through acting as my business manager.
I am currently a National Board Certified elementary art teacher.
